1) Create an Attractive Twitter Profile :

Make sure to reply to Tweets from other accounts, and communicate with other users through the Direct Messages feature. Make tweets that encourage conversation: ask compelling questions, ask for opinions, and discuss controversial and interesting topics with other users.
Offering value is the easiest way to make people remember you. For Ex. Start a contest that offers a prize for following your account.

5) Maximize Visibility through Social Media Profiles :
Place links to your Twitter profile everywhere. Link it on Social Networking sites, blogs, email signature, and everywhere else you are online. People will follow you because they want to know you more and this can be a way to generate leads.

6) Tweet your Pictures/Videos:

Last week Twitter began to slowly roll out a new feature called Local Trends to expose what people are talking about on the state and city level, and now they have fully launched so everyone can use it.

Once you set your location, Local Trends allows you to see what conversational trends are popular nearby. Changing your location immediately updates the list of trending topics in the right-hand sidebar of your Twitter.com home display.

Twitter currently has a limited number of options to choose from in terms of location but they are working on adding more. It has been mentioned in the Twitter blog that they will be improving this feature over time to provide more locations, languages, and data through their API.

Local Trends will allow you to learn more about the nuances in our world and discover even more relevant topics that might matter to you.
